Independence Day (2009)

I think the 4th of July has to be one of my favorite holidays. When else could you light things on fire and watch them explode? This year we went to No. Salt Lake's fireworks. It was AWESOME! I didn't take any pictures of the actual fireworks but here are a few before it got dark. We were so close that there was ash falling down near us. They were some of the biggest fireworks I have ever seen. Probably because we were so close.

Thats right, it was COLD. We all curled up in blankets to keep warm. Amir was a little scared of the fireworks at first but by the end he was asking for more.

Michael Jackson

I don't have a whole lot to say about Michael Jacksons death... I never followed any of the stories in the 90's - I actually didn't know everything until the other day when I watched a documentary about his life.
I'm a little shocked about what people are saying about him. Seriously people, at this point - WHO CARES! He's dead and he was a talented artist. He made such a huge impact on music and dance around the world. Especially dance. So get over him.
Really all I wanted to say was that I like his music.

Our Mayan Adventure

We ate dinner at the Mayan at Jordan Commons the other night. I have to admit, it was the dining adventure I will never forget.... Our servers name was Jon. Not Bob, not James, not even Bill... It was JON. The reason I know this is because he told us.. Twice. That and he had a name tag that read: Jon. It could have been spelled J-O-H-N but I wasn't paying attention to the spelling. So I'm going with J-O-N.

Johnny boy was the ULTIMATE winner. He took about 10 minutes to actually come over and take our drink order after introducing himself. By then we were also ready to order our food so we did that when we ordered our drinks. We had three regular coke's, one diet coke and a raspberry smoothie. Not a hard thing to remember right? Well after taking our order he asked Rich (who had a regular coke and the raspberry smoothie) "You had a.......Coke? and a........................................................................." Rich: "raspberry smoothie"

Until this point I was able to hold my laughter in while he was standing near our table. When this happened tears welled up in my eyes and a smile crossed my face and there was a tightness in my chest from trying semi-unsucessfully to hold in my laughter.

When Jon brought us our drinks he called them out as he set them down: "Regoolar, regoolar, diet, regoolar and raspberry smoothie!" After setting our drinks down he walked away. Then five minutes later walked back and asked if we needed anything. Ummm... I didn't realize until then that we might need something five minutes after finally getting our drinks. Wow... Winner.

Those were just the really memorable things. There was a LOT more going on.. Such as people in loin cloths running around, mumbling things randomly...

Needless to say, I don't think we will be going back anytime soon. There is a reason I never went back after the first time I went (ten-ish years ago)

The family is originally from the Congo, but now live in a YWCA in Salt Lake City (Where I also live). They are about to get kicked out, because they have stayed over their allotted period of 2 yrs. The father recently committed suicide, leaving the widowed mother (wrought with health problems) to provide for the family. I don't have that type of money, but I have decided to spend my whole summer raising the money from the 100% sales of my music. I am an independent musician, and my goal is to get as many people as possible to download a single for 99 cents from iTunes between July 27 and the end of summer. 100% of the money raised from the sale of the song will be used to buy them a home.

I am calling this project,"Home for a download."

I was inspired to do this after watching the movie 'Pay it Forward'. This movie helped me realize that it can be a powerful thing do something big for somebody else that they could not do for themselves and not expect anything in return.I am rallying around my state to get the word out, but it's not easy..all I need is to bring an awareness of this project that the community might contribute to make this HAPPEN. I am blessed and grateful for the musical talent God has given me, and want to use the awesome power of music to PAY IT FORWARD.To see the smile on the faces of this family when this is accomplished would be joy and a priceless memory!I filmed a short video of the family you can see here.
